Overview
In just 5 days, you'll see Morocco's landscapes change again and again — snowy mountains, red kasbah walls, deep canyons, and golden desert dunes. This trip is not rushed. It's built around the best views the country has to offer, with enough time to enjoy each one.
The route crosses the High Atlas Mountains through the Tizi n'Tichka pass, then stops at old kasbahs and fortified villages (ksour) built centuries ago along ancient trade routes. Next comes the Dades and Todra Gorges, where tall cliffs rise on both sides of the road. The journey ends in the Sahara Desert, with a camel ride and a night under the stars in Merzouga.
Whether you're looking for adventure, culture, or simply time to relax, this trip brings a bit of everything.
Marrakech → High Atlas → Ait Ben Haddou → Dades Valley
Departure from Marrakech early in the morning towards the High Atlas Mountains. The road climbs through the spectacular Tizi n’Tichka pass, offering panoramic views of valleys and traditional Berber villages. We visit the famous UNESCO site of Ait Ben Haddou, an ancient fortified village known for its cinematic landscapes. After lunch, the journey continues through Ouarzazate and the Valley of Roses before reaching the peaceful Dades Valley for dinner and overnight stay.
Dades → Todra Gorges → Erfoud → Merzouga Desert
After breakfast, we travel through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs Stop at the breathtaking Todra Gorges, where massive canyon walls rise dramatically above the river. Continue towards Erfoud, known for fossils and palm groves. By late afternoon, we reach the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here begins your camel trek into the Sahara, crossing the dunes at sunset before arriving at a luxury desert camp for dinner and traditional music under the stars.
Merzouga Desert Experience & New Year Celebration
This day is all about the desert itself. In the morning, visit the small village of Khamlia, home to a Gnawa community known for its spiritual music, hypnotic rhythms, and drum circles passed down through generations. From there, explore the quiet edges of Erg Chebbi — nomad tents, hidden oases, and dunes that shift color with the light. In the evening, the desert camp comes alive for New Year's Eve: a traditional Moroccan dinner, drummers playing late into the night, a bonfire under a sky full of stars, and a festive atmosphere you won't find anywhere else in Morocco.
Merzouga → Rissani → Todra Gorges → Dades Valley
After sunrise over the dunes, head back toward Merzouga village and start the return journey. First stop: Rissani, an old caravan town and the historic birthplace of Morocco's ruling dynasty. If you pass through on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, the souk is in full swing — spices, dates, leather goods, and everyday desert life on display. Nearby in Erfoud, you can stop at a small workshop to see fossils cut straight from ancient seabed rock, a local specialty of the region. The road then climbs toward the Todra Gorges, where 300-meter canyon walls close in above a narrow river, one of the most striking natural sights in Morocco. The day ends in the Dades Valley, surrounded by rose fields and layered rock formations, for dinner and an overnight stay.
Dades Valley → Ouarzazate → High Atlas → Marrakech
The final day starts with the Dades Valley's dramatic scenery in the morning light before heading to Ouarzazate, nicknamed 'the Hollywood of Morocco' for its film studios where major movies and series have been shot. Time permitting, stop at Taourirt Kasbah, a striking fortified building right in town. From there, the road crosses back over the High Atlas Mountains, with a stop in a Berber village for a panoramic lunch overlooking the valley. You'll arrive back in Marrakech by late afternoon, closing out five days that took you from mountain passes to desert dunes and back.
